Central Corridor
A new way to move
Central Corridor Light rail transit will provide a fast, safe, new transportation choice in one of our region’s most heavily traveled corridors - the 11-mile Central Corridor linking downtown Saint Paul and downtown Minneapolis via Washington and University avenues.
LRT will mean improved access to five major centers of economic activity - the two downtowns, the University of Minnesota, the Midway district, the state Capitol complex and many neighborhoods in between. Together, they contain almost 280,000 jobs - a number that is expected to grow to 345,000 by 2030. The LRT will also slow the growth of traffic congestion and provide opportunity for greater reinvestment in the area.
Business Resources
The Business Resource Collaborative created a website containing information about services and resources — in multiple languages — that can help you prepare your business or property for the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Line. Our goal is to help corridor area businesses and property owners:
- PREPARE for the impact of Light Rail Transit
- SURVIVE during periods of construction
- THRIVE after the line becomes operational in 2014.
Ready for Rail website
Ready for Rail brochure is a checklist to help prepare your business.
Saint Paul small businesses support services: Download additional information on financial assistance, legal advice, marketing, construction, parking, and more.
Business consultants are available to help small business owners across the corridor improve marketing, obtain training and technical advice, and identify sources of loans, matching grants, and other financial assistance.
Small business loan program: You may qualify for extra help if you need it.
Joint marketing programs: In the months ahead, we’ll introduce new efforts to market and promote all area businesses affected by the construction of the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Line.
Benefits
- The large public investment along the avenue will spur tremendous private development.
- The private investment will be guided by the Central Corridor Development Strategy and balanced by the needs and desires of the community.
- Above all, the Central Corridor represents a historic opportunity to remake one of Saint Paul’s most iconic streets.
