About Phalen Park
The City of Saint Paul acquired the land in 1899 at a cost of $22,000. The park was opened to the public soon after. The park named after early settler Edward Phalen whose last name was variously spelled. Phalen staked one of the first claims to the land around Phalen Creek.

PARK RESERVATION INFORMATION

Phalen Picnic Pavilion
seats approximately 300 people.  Electricity is available at a 110 volts. Multiple crock pots, coffee pots, roasters and other electric items may cause overloads on the power source.

Phalen Picnic Shelter seats approximately 50 people. It is accessible by pedestrian bridge only so everything must be carried to the shelter.  NO electricity is available on the Island.

Phalen Picnic Amphitheater seats approximately 100 people. Electricity is available at a 110 volts. Multiple crock pots, coffee pots, roasters and other electric items may cause overloads on the power source.

Also availible are the following:  paved trails, tot lot, 1 fire ring on island, swimming beach, golf clubhouse/banquet facility, Lakeside Activities Center, sand volleyball court near beach area, tennis courts, raquetball courts at Maryland and Johnson Parkway and barbecue grills which are located around the site.

Alcohol - The possession and consumption of non-intoxicating malt liquor (containing not more than 3.2% alcohol by weight) is permitted from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. within designated picnic areas. Glass beverage containers are not allowed.

    Phalen WaterFest
    WaterFest is a free family celebration of our clean lakes and an opportunity for fun hands-on learning about clean water, wildlife, and land and water conservation. Highlights of WaterFest activities include: a Raindrop Mystery Hunt, Voyageur canoe rides, fishing lessons, rain garden tours and native plant give-away, live animals, water games, Hmong Youth Dancers, landscaping and watershed exhibits, the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society's 18th Annual Solar Boat Regatta (www.mnrenewables.org) and lots more.
